Navigation support helps people understand which services may be relevant and what steps are needed to access them. It takes account of language, family relationships, cultural preferences and familiarity with Australian service systems. Professional interpreters can support communication where needed. The person decides who is involved and what information is shared. Navigation is practical assistance; specialist clinical, legal or migration advice is referred to an appropriately qualified professional.

Support may include

  • Accessible information about service options
  • Professional interpreter arrangements where needed
  • Support to prepare for appointments and referrals
  • Working with families and relevant community contacts
