Support at Home

Dementia Cognitive Support and Carer Respite

In-home assistance for older people living with dementia, alongside support that gives family carers an agreed break.

Dementia support pays attention to familiar routines, communication and activities that remain meaningful to the person. Workers consider preferences and signs of distress while providing the assistance agreed in the care plan. Planned respite gives carers an identified period of support rather than an undefined promise of relief. Changing health or safety concerns are referred to the appropriate clinician or responsible care provider.

Support may include

  • Familiar routines and meaningful activities
  • Communication adapted to the person’s needs
  • Practical daily support and planned respite
  • Coordination with carers and relevant health professionals
